Rulers Guides & Lines Assignment
This exercise is designed to help you learn to use the rulers, guides & lines Photoshop tools –which are very useful when you need to align multiple elements on a Photoshop slide. You will definitely use these tools in later assignments.
HERE ARE THE STEPS FOR THIS ASSIGNMENT...
FIRST -Find an example of an image that uses of the rule of 3rds composition. You can use one of your photos, or use the photographer links page on our website assets page for a good site with interesting photos, or an image you find from a web search.
YOU CANNOT USE A PHOTO FROM THE WEB WITH PRE-DRAWN RULE OF THIRDS LINES!!!
Step 1. Copy the image to your computer. If you can’t remember how to do this, then go to the
“How to do a Screen Shot” lesson in the Photoshop skills page.
Step 2. Open your image in Photoshop.
Step 3. Go to... View > Rulers
pulldown menu at the top of the Photoshop window.
Step 4. Follow the directions in the images below to create “rule of thirds” lines on an image.
Step 5. Color, or highlight those guides using the Photoshop line tool.
Step 6. When you have finished highlighting the guides with colored lines, do a screenshot of that image, including
the rulers toolbar.
Step 7. Place that image on a new Photoshop background, (1024x768 @72dpi), then put a border around the image.
Step 8. Write RULERS, GUIDES & Lines on the slide.
Step 9. Add your name and period# to the slide.
Step 10. Save your project as: P#yourlastname_guides.
When you are finished, your project should look something like the image below.
