THE ASSIGNMENT -LEARN HOW TO USE PIXLR :)
We are really fortunate to have this resource at our disposal! This free online photo editing software is very similar to the early versions of Photoshop that I used "back in
the day." It does most of the things we use Photoshop for, and the best thing is... it's free! (everybody's favorite price...)
WHAT TO DO STEP 1
For this "assignment" I want you to watch this into to Pixlr tutorial. You'll find the Pixlr interface is very similar to Photoshop. In some cases, it's easier. The presenter in this tutorial starts with creating a background and drawing on it. He walks you through the toolbar; the brushes tool, the paint bucket, etc... all those tools you're familiar with. The tools are just in a different location on the toolbar than you're used to in Photoshop.
The presenter gets into the photo editing tools at about 10:38 minutes into the video. At the end of the tutorial, he talks about how to add Pixlr to your Google Drive apps -which, I have a feeling, is going to be incredibly helpful.
WHAT TO DO STEP 2
After you've watched the video, sign up for a free Pixlr "E" account. Pixler E is the verison that seems the most like Photoshop. The other version of Pixlr is a very bare-bones image editor and you will probably be frustrated using it.
WHAT TO DO STEP 3
After you've created an account, experiment with the program. Try make a new image background, then color it, or give it a gradient, add two photos (anything you like), put a border around the photos and some text on that background. Now, I'm going to be real with you. For this "assignment" I'm not going to have you submit it & I'm not going to grade your efforts. (I can hear your thinking already, so I'm going to respond by saying, "come on, please do this." This is the self-directed part of the class that's important...) There's a reason for this "assignment," you're going to use Pixler and all the steps I mentined above (background, photos, borders, text) for the next assignment submission -which I will give you on Monday. So this is a chance to figure out Pixler and ask me quesitons the next time we meet.
