Multiple-Light Studio Portraits

HERE’S THE ASSIGNMENT

Create two studio portraits using multiple lights, or gels and/or grid spots. Shoot portraits of an athlete in uniform, a musician, or someone wearing something visually interesting. Demonstrate your control of the main and secondary light(s), their shadows and highlights.

HOW TO APPROACH THIS ASSIGNMENT

•This should be shot as though you are working for a magazine, a producer, or recording label to create a “style,” for your images.

•Think of this as your opportunity to shoot an athlete, or musician, or someone visually interesting for a website, a magazine, or new album cover.

•Plan your portrait session in advance.  Talk with your subject about what you want them to wear, and the "look" you are trying to achieve.

•Experiment with different moods, changing your lighting ratios, backgrounds, light diffusion (using large and/or small light source(s), with hard or soft shadows) and background colors.

•During your session, shoot a second photo that shows each of your lighting setups.
